Need 3 Desktop PCs For Kids

I need your help too. My husband and I will purchase 3 desktop PCs for our 3 teen aged kids (19, 17 and 14). We're so confused what type will be budget-friendly, yet will meet the kids' demands.

Our eldest likes to research, download music and pics, chat, watch videos, no gaming. The 2 young ones are boys so they pretty much do gaming most often, plus of course videos, music and stuff.

We're looking into Dell PCs, however, we'd like to trust your recommendations. If you could specifically pinpoint a model worth probably $500 each? Is there something like this we can find? If not, what are your suggestions?

Answer

My first choice is always to build, especially when in a tight budget. If that isn't an option, I'd get myself 3 Inspiron 545s. It's not a cutting edge computer, but it will do everything they ask just fine except for running the latest 3d games. Smaller games or games a year or so old should all be fine.

If was forced into buying a prebuilt computer, currently the only model I would look at is Dell. At present, their service just can't be beat, and they do build machines that stand the test of time.

If you really want to get the most for your money, building is the way to go. If you get your oldest son to lead the charge and start at my how to build a computer web page I'm sure they could build their own as well. Teen's seem to find this the easiest to pick up and really enjoy what they've made when it's all done.
